How to Fix or Report Incorrect Bus Data

Everyone spots mistakes from time to time. This guide shows how to correct entries yourself where allowed, and how to flag issues for review when you cannot.

Small fixes you can usually make yourself

If you are confident something is wrong and you have good evidence, you can often correct minor issues directly.

  • Typo corrections in notes or captions where the meaning is clear.
  • Updating a fleet number or depot when you have current, reliable information.
  • Adding missing details such as bodywork or chassis where you can prove them.

When to use a report or feedback tool instead

Some changes are better handled by moderators so that duplicates, history and linked records stay consistent.

  • Merging or splitting buses that may have been duplicated.
  • Correcting long‑standing data where multiple photos and notes disagree.
  • Disputes over identities, rebuilds or major history changes.

What makes a strong correction report

Good reports save moderators a lot of time and make it easier to apply the right fix first time.

  • Explain what is wrong and what you believe the correct data is.
  • Mention how you know - for example “operator fleetlist dated…”, “official PDF timetable”, or “builder’s plate photo attached”.
  • Include links or upload photos that clearly show the correct information where possible.

Being respectful of previous contributors

Most mistakes are honest ones. Treat corrections as a way to improve the shared resource, not criticise individuals.

  • Avoid wording such as “obviously wrong” in notes - stick to facts and sources.
  • If you are reversing someone else’s change, briefly explain why so future editors understand the history.
  • Remember that some details genuinely change over time; what was right once may no longer be correct today.
